Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a gentle, therapeutic massage technique designed to stimulate the lymphatic system, which helps to remove waste and toxins from the body. The lymphatic system is part of the immune system, consisting of lymph nodes, vessels, and fluid, and plays a crucial role in maintaining fluid balance, fighting infections, and removing toxins.
MLD is often used in the treatment of conditions like:
*The technique requires specialized training, and it should be performed by a certified therapist*
A bright yet restful treatment room with a spa-like ambiance. After a brief intake, your practitioner will step out of the room so that you can undress to your level of comfort. Once you’re settled onto the heated massage table under the sheets and a luxuriously soft blanket, your session will begin. Enjoy cozy touches such as a heat lamp, red light therapy, aromatherapy and hot towels to help relax and pamper you throughout your session.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage, though soothing and quite relaxing, is NOT a massage. This modality is not the manipulation of muscles and soft tissue in the way you may have usually experienced. Expect extremely gentle pressure applied in a very specific way and a very specific order with strokes repeated 5-20 times depending on the condition. Occasionally, Cupping may be used to enhance certain treatment goals.
You may feel a sense of flow, opening, and a tingling sensation, as if your skin is saying, “Yay!..” Post treatment, patients tend to report a feeling of deep relaxation, openness and flow.
